God’s Heroes: Teachers in the Slums of Kenya
Hero: "A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his life." American Heritage Dictionary
Feats of Courage Teachers in the Kenyan slums live out the definition of hero every day. They walk into the slums of Mathare each day - a place police refuse to enter. The work under extremely adverse conditions: dirt floors, few teaching tools, no electricty or safe water.
Nobility of Purpose The teachers serve Jesus by ministering to the children who have nothing - children without parents and without food except for what the school provides.
Risk & Sacrifice These teachers are often the only constant adult figure for the children. They parent as well as teach. Many work from dawn to dusk six days a week. Their perseverance, love and devotion brings the character of Jesus to the heart of the slums. There is no electricity in the slums, no running water, no toilets and no police protection. The teachers living here make sacrifices for the school children that we could never imagine.
It costs $113 a month to pay the salary of a teacher, but your gift of ANY AMOUNT will help provide teacher salaries!
