Bridge Ministries was officially formed in 2005, but our story actually began long ago with a seven-year old boy who met a missionary in a rural part of Kenya. As a result of his relationship with the missionary, the boy accepted Christ as his Savior, and grew up to become a pastor. Years later this boy's grandson, Andrew Onguka, came to the United States to study at Westmont College in California. During a Thanksgiving break from school, a friend brought Andrew to Carson City, Nevada, where his story had a great impact on everyone who heard it.

Andrew's uncle, Pastor Daniel Ogutu, started Mathare Community Outreach (MCO) in order to minister to over 1200 destitute children, many of whom are AIDS orphans. MCO consists of a school and orphanage. The school is located in the heart of the slum and offers food, clothing, and a Christian education. The orphanage is located at Kariobangi, approximately one mile from Mathare. Daniel is also the pastor of Outreach Community Church which is located on the edge of the Mathare slum. He & his wife Magdaline wear many hats as they serve the children and staff at MCO by being living examples of the love of Christ. There are 43 teachers and a staff of social workers, cooks and administrators who work with the children every day, even on their days off! They could make more money working elsewhere, but choose to sacrifice their lives for these children, all in the name of Jesus. Bridge Ministries was created to serve these children and build relationships with them and the local body of believers in Mathare.
